Photograph of Dr. Brothers in front of her many filing cabinets, circa 1980.
Description:
Dr. Brothers had an extraordinarily intricate filing system, a work of art on its own. Her research files consisted of index cards, organized alphabetically by topic, with clippings from various research journals and magazines attached. She would pull a topic from the thousands of cards, which she called the "Tobies" after an assistant of hers, and brush up on up-to-date research for lectures, talk shows, and articles. All of these cards are now kept within her archival collection.
